Just because it’s called the Depressed Cake Shop and all the baked goods are the dour color gray is no reason to assume you won’t enjoy this unique Houston fundraiser.

Sunday Oct. 9 marks the third annual Depressed Cake Shop, hosted by the sunny Jody Stevens, the baker known as Jodycakes. The event features baked goods from some of the best pastry chefs and restaurants in Houston – all cloaked in gray icing or frosting (anything sugary gray).

Why the moody color? The gray baked goods are meant to call attention to mental health issues. The event hopes to get people talking about mental health issues. Proceeds from the bake sale will go to the Montrose Center and NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Issues) Greater Houston.
